Unlike many who take up TAoKM and are determined to make their own kilts, I have never sewn before. I'm a little baffled by the process, so I did a little surfing, and found this helpful video series on YouTube about hand sewing. Here is a sample. This poster did a whole series. I think it's a useful series, because she is very clear and concise about her presentation.

Well found! There is a wealth of good tutorial material out there. Don't neglect your public library as a source.

I maintain that if you arrive with basic bachelor-level sewing ability (sew a button, hem trousers, make a small repair to a seam), sufficient determination, and The Book; that you can make a kilt. For "determination," you may read "stubbornness."
