My son wants a mask sporran

I have no idea how to go about making one. I have a lovely fox pelt- or at the least the shoulders and head- and could use help on patterns. Or really, any advice at all on how to go about making this sucker!!

I would bring it to a taxidermist and have them mount the head and enough of the shoulders to make the front flap then continue the leather they mount the head to so you can form that into the back. Then cut the pelt where it's hidden and mount the cut portion to the front and sides. That would be my jump off idea and I would think about specifics and really think out how it was going to go down. Good luck. I hope someone else has better info.

Around here, I know this is turpin's area. Hopefully, he'll find this thread and give some advice. His mask sporrans are really nice... he's mastered the technique of mounting the head in an understated, low-profile manner that makes for the perfect head-on all purpose bag. Plus, he's just a nice guy.

Try talking to him about this project.

Try Kate Macpherson Sporrans or L&M Highland Outfitters - they both make high quality, superb full-mask sporrans in a variety of animals. I stand behind both sporran makers, as I am a patron of both companies.
