Good for you, Jock, but your edit was three minutes after my post, not before.

I really did like the image of Prince Albert's stag in a fine grey suit, though.

My English might have slipped up, but ---------oh never mind! A mistake is a mistake!

I often had a pointer across my knuckles for my maths, so this was not a solitary occasion. Thank you for your kind understanding; the first large one is on me.

The thread is about 18th century hunting deer, isn't it, Brian? Oh, I see: gear, not deer.

Thank you for fulfilling my fondest wish, JD, but where or where did you find that pencil drawing of Doolittle? He's in our back hall, you know, and was given that name by some relative because he doesn't do much except hang there. I see he's wearing Elmer's fine grey suit with the "If found, send me home" badge. Doolittle and Elmer aren't really Highlanders (will somebody help us? I say Mule, others say Blacktail, Whitetail, but the back end is through the wall so I can't just go and look). Perhaps the suit was made in Fort William or Dornoch. Does that bring the thread back on topic, Jock?

Again drifting into the 19th C., this is an interesting print (note the fellow on the left's peaked cap!):
