When I discovered this story on wiki-bullo-pedia I took great delight. I had good reason to as well.

Working in Scotland at the time I was under a barrage of 'banter' from my Scottish chums by virtue of my Englishness. This particular gem provided me with much retaliatory ammunition to counter my tormentors, (I do tend to over dramatise, it was all in good fun.)

The concept of the Kilt being English was so abhorrent to the Scots I worked with and this clear and irrefutable proof I delivered was so mind blowing (if it's on't t'interweb it's got to be true) it did provide momentary respite from the daily torrent of Anglophobic abuse.

As a consequence and in the heat of the moment, I bought a Kilt to embrace this English Garment... and I've never looked back.

Unfortunately one of my more astute colleagues found Matt's fact sheet. That meant they (The Scots) were vindicated whereas I (the Englishman) was was left merely with an unstoppable addiction.

Oh the irony!

It is a fantastic garment though. I was happy either way so I didn't push it.

(Please take this post in the spirit it is intended. Personally I have never been under the apprehension that the Kilt is anything but Scottish in origin.)
