I like the music. The "kilts" look pretty cool but I think the lend themselves more to the modern. A sort of Celtic punk rocker or Celtic grunge look. Just a tad on he theatrical side of things.

Well said! I've been combing through my mental files trying to find a quick and easy way to describe their style, without much luck.
Thanks Matt :-)

I know they have their detractors, but I do enjoy Albannach. they're great to lift weights to!

I think just about everyone in this thread is missing the point. No, they're not historically accurate. They don't even try to be- obviously. They can't really making much effort. They wear black t shirts! The point is to be very modern. They play no traditional tunes- it's almost all original, and all modern. They are a product of the modern times. It seems to me that the point of the mighty Nach to be moving forward, and not looking back- which is one reason I own a kilt in their tartan, because that's my whole outlook on culture. For what it's worth. (I would add here that I happen to be huge fan!)

They're more a "spirit" of things than a "history". And, like others have said, I enjoy Albannach in moderation. Though, I hate pipe and drum groups that use didgeridoo.

IMHO, a great Ceilidh party band, for any occasion, if you're into a more contemporary type of pipe music, try Reel Time Ceilidh band their kind of neat sounding also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf3UuIMhoDw |

I would say very contemporary-not historical in anyway, in fact pretty in line with what Ashley MacIsaac wore in the 2010 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony with the Fiddling piece, except that MacIsaac wore a collage of torn kilts.
The piper is also playing "The Gael" by Dougie MacLean which is 1990's at it's best, discovered by most in Last of the Mohicans in 1992. As a piper, I would gotten annoyed with the tuning pretty quick. Reeds go south, but when they go too far, it's better to re-tune in front of an audience than get into another tune to scratch the chalk board with.
So the musicians and the kilts are all contemporary.
