    Dress Tartans

I have a question about dress tartan.
I know what they look like but when are they worn exactly? Are they just for dancers? I see tartans at Weddings but I don't recall seeing a dress tartan. But then again, maybe I've just never seen it.

    So...when do you where them?
    Thanks!

    Post "dress tartans"...

"Dress" tartans reflect a fashion style for women in the 1700's with cream or white based tartans (Newsome, "Advice for First Time Kilt Wearers"); however, you see quite a few men today wearing "dress" tartans for formal functions as well as casual.

    Regards,

    Todd

numerous pipe bands wear the dress gordon tartan. It's really just another tartan option these days.
