Nice looking tartan. Not for me, but it looks great on the model.

As much as I wish them well with their endeavours, I just can't see this being the money spinner that they hope for. If a person is a member or ex-member of the Black Watch or a fan of the Black Watch, why not wear the Black Watch? Why wear a tartan that will not be recognised as having anything to do with the Black Watch. In the UK there are 3 tartans that are recognised by the public - Royal Stewart, Burberry and Black Watch. Everything else comes under the heading 'other tartans'.
One day, I hope to have a kilt made in the heaviest weight Black Watch that I can find, but I could never see me wanting the 'Red Hackle'.
It would be interesting to find out whether they ever get more than one bolt of cloth woven. Good luck to them - I think they might need it.
Regards Chas

Brian | I agree. It looks good to add a little colour to Black Watch, imHo

Great-looking tartan now that I see it outside of the swatch photos.

I saw a different picture in the Scotsman that hardly showed the full tartan sett... I googled it when I got home and the tartan looks alright, I prefer the original colours & sett of Black Watch, though.

I rather agree that if one wanted to wear a tartan in honor of the Black Watch, most would simply choose the Black Watch tartan. However, I wish them luck.
For those that have commented that the Black Watch tartan looks good "with a bit of color added," there are a host of tartans that have been created by simply adding various colored stripes to the Black Watch.
Those that come immediately to mind:
Gordon
Forbes
Lamont
MacKenzie
Robertson Hunting
Farquarson
Scottish National
There are, of course, many others.

I echo the comments about why would someone want to use this sett when the wearing the Government sett, plus Regimental Tie if entitled, would already show one’s allegiance to the Black Watch.
From a technical design point of view this sett just doesn’t do it for me. There's nothing really unique about it and it could easliy be confused with a number of existing designs madded to which, there is no point in have two shades of red in different overstripes as the difference will hardly be noticeable. I’m also not sure that it could be protected from a commercial stand point as the sett, albeit with one shade of red, already exists although not in the public domain.

A really lovely tartan! For once I think the photo with the young woman gets in the way of seeing the tartan. Now that's saying a lot for a 'registered dirty old man'!
