Wilsons' Prince Charles Edward - variations on a theme

Heres a good example of how Wilsons' changes their shades over time.

These four pieces were woven by Wilsons between c1790-1840 and are all naturally dyes. It nicely demonstrates the fact that natural dyes can produce a range of shades and that in the early 19th century, as today, there were variations in sett size and shades. The lighter pieces are older and may indicate an earlier fashion preference or perhaps use of different dyestuffs, especially for the greens.

I especially like the one on the right. It practically glows. I'd love to have a kilt out of that stuff.

Which of these was the basis for the Carolina tartan? The bottom middle?
