The Council of Scottish Armigerous Clans & Families

Quote:
The Council of Scottish Armigerous Clans and Families is an organisation to support those Armigerous Clans who are descended or accepting themselves as descendants of a common ancestor, and where the head of each individual armigerous family is in lawful possession of a coat of arms, granted or rematriculated by the Lord Lyon, King of Arms of Scotland, but for whatever reason, each Armigerous Clan does not have a Chief recognised by the Lord Lyon. http://www.clans-families.org
This is an exciting new organisation brought about after the Gathering 2009 in Edinburgh. To give those Clans without a recognised Chief (for what ever reason) a common voice and to consult and lobby on all matters affecting the official recognition of Scottish Clans. More information can be found not only on their website but on their Council Network at http://clancouncil.ning.com

This is an important step forward for those Clans at present without Chiefs and those interested in preserving Scottish Culture and Tradition.

Very interesting indeed. My own (lowland) clan is currently going down the route of identifying a hereditary Head of Family and two potential claimants have approached the Lord Lyon but I will advise the leading people in the clan society of this new organisation.

A list of proposed Council Members, along with their respective armigerous Clan and Associate Members can be found here Council Members.

The list does not include the Supporting Members of the Council this will be compiled at a later stage. Details of the various levels of membership and criteria can be found here Membership of the Council.

The Council of Scottish Armigerous Clans & Families is an important step forward for those Chiefless Clans not supported by any group and gives the opportunity for these Armigerous Clans to work as a combined unit towards formal recognition by The Court of The Lord Lyon and aid further cooperation with the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs.

I am pleased to announce that The Council of Scottish Amigerous Clans & Families was officially launched at the inaugural meeting of the Council on the 23rd May 2010 in Edinburgh.

So what is The Council of Scottish Armigerous Clans & Families?

A brief update, the Council was set up to support those Clans whom at present are Chieffless and are actively pursuing, or wish to pursue official recognition of a Chief through the Lord Lyon of Scotland, more details can be found on the website http://www.clans-families.org.

Although the above is the primary objective of the Council. The Council of Scottish Armigerous Clans & Families will actively aid and promote Scottish History & Culture through various events, highland games and other media globally. The Council's Social Network at http://clancouncil.ning.com gives a interactive platform for visitors and members of the council to interact on various topics of Scottish interest .

The Council have at present Commissioners in; Australasia, Malcolm Buchanan (Clan Buchanan); South Africa, Micheil Armstrong of Mungbyhurst (Clan Armstrong) and in North America, Jim Strachan (Clan Strachan) their contact details can be found on the Council's Website.

Regards to all

John

Congratulations John on launching this effort!

One of the clans I have blood ties too (Muir) is currently Chieffless & is seeking to have one appointed (though I confess I have not followed their efforts closely & do not know how far it has progressed).

Thanks John, this is a much needed resource. The representative of my clan on the new Council, William Robin Bontine Cunninghame Graham of Gartmore, is a direct descendent of the Earls of Glencairn and is in fact currently seeking recognition by the Lord Lyon as Head of Family.

Thanks Terry, but this was not my effort alone but also that of Michael Grewar and others.

I think come time people form various Clans whether Chiefless or not will realise what an important step the Council is in preserving Scottish Clans, Culture and History in the 21st century.

I meant it as a congrat's to the group as a whole, I guess I worded it wrong
