Learned of a new clan

I've been re-connecting with my biological fathers family lately, and found out that his heritage includes members of the Urquhart clan, 5 gens back.

Guess this means I have yet *another* clan to make a kilt of now....

*edit* on, it should be "Learned" not "Lean Red"
That's a rather spurious connection to a clan, no?

I don't think it's spurious at all. Distant perhaps, but not spurious. I'm quite happy to honor connections with ancestors no matter how many generations past. And if that's an excuse for a new kilt, all the better.

As my wife put it, "Any excuse for a new kilt, huh?"

I already have Allen material waiting to be built up, Allens being the largest and repetetive contributor to my paternal bloodline. But if I chose I could have 7 or 8 more tartans from relations in my paternal line of Martins, Macmillans, Macnaughtons, and sept relationships with Camerons, MacDonells and Chattans in addition to the already established Douglas and MacDonald sept relationships. I don't even want to get started looking at my mothers family tree, although it is mostly German and English descent compared to my father's.

But as said above, another excuse for a kilt---in my case several, if you include hunting setts and sept tartans, I could be at this for several more years.

Welcome to the clan!!

Do you know the names or dates of your Urquhart immigrant ancestors, and/or where they came from?

Like many clans, we have a few different tartans. The oldest (fabric sample from the 1815 Cockburn collection) Urquhart tartan and the one that is most recognized is the Urquhart Broad Red set, although the white line sett is the most commonly available through retailers (I'm always on the lookout for an authentic Urquhart Broad Red tie).

Kind regards,
Bill Urquhart

I'll have to get the full tree from my cousin Deb, she has all of the information. She's the family tree maintainer.

Well, if you wouldn't mind sharing, I'm always up for having a look at an Urquhart immigrant line I haven't seen before.
