Lyle1, yeah those are the sources we've been going by. I dearly wish I could find something more on William's parents, but nothing so far.
Nick, MacGilmore works fine for me. Its not surprising that others are in my position.
I've also got a slew of Browns in my family (my paternal grandmother's family) but we can't trace them back before 1820. I know Brown is somewhat associated with Lamont also, so I like to assume that's where they came from as well. That's my story and I'm sticking to it, at least until I find a source to tell me otherwise. But that's a discussion for the genealogy forum.
