Wow, what an incredible artifact. Can't wait to see the paper and learn more about it's make and embellishments. Would have been a pretty amazing coat to wear - so for whom was it made, when was it worn, and what were the ramifications of wearing it?

As the note on FB says, if belonged to the Ancient Caledonian Society and seems to have been part of their official dress. The Society was founded in 1786 which fits in with the c1790 date for this piece. By then the Jacobite threat had past and the Highland Revival was getting underway. The reference to the Jacobite cause of some 40 years earlier was no longer seen as a a threat. One can't imagine such a coat being allowed a generation earlier.
