It's good to know that such a high level of Gaelic can be found on Canada's East Coast!

There are actually several communities in Cape Breton and Newfoundland, albeit in Newfoundland they're smaller outport communities, where Gaelic is still the main spoken language in conversation. And there's actually a Gaelic University in Cape Breton as well!

You can thank the Motherland for that!!

I was at the Saturday market last week with my paintings and another artist who I'd talked to before noticed I was in a kilt and so we talked .... he started saying Gaelic sentences - apparently he's fairly fluent (but I didn't have a clue what he was saying)

But yeah, there is some strong Gaelic area in Nova Scotia - Cape Breton being one focal point.

    There's the Gaelic College

Yes, I was aware of the Gaelic College and that there are Gaelic speaking areas out there. The pleasant surprise is a Canadian being recognized for his abilities and contributions.

p.s. I am Canadian, though currently in Hong Kong for school.
