    Scottish and Irish Military

This is my first post on here. I am looking for a place on the web or in a book that will list all of the Scottish and Irish military units (from the very beginning to the present). I am looking in particular for a listing of cap badges. I am wanting to start collecting them and would like to a have a list I can check off as I obtain a badge. I have been a collector of U.S. Police badges and have a nice collection that I am leaving to my children and I want to start this new collection. Any help would be appreciated and judging by the knowledge on this site I am sure to have many responses. I recently purchased a kilt for my Emerald Society and used this website to research and learn.

There are hundreds of books and monographs on the subject of collecting British Army cap badges, and a fair amount of info on the cap badges worn by the Irish Army since 1921. Google is always your best first place to check for info, and to help you focus your collecting interest: Victorian, WWI or WWII, or Commonwealth forces, or Indian Army, or helmet plates or... and the list goes on. As a beginning collector I'd suggest focusing on either WWI or WWII cap badges as theses are relatively easy to come by and are fairly inexpensive to collect. For a list of useful titles you may want to check with (among others) the British Army Museum gift shop.
