Thank you, Richard.
What a fascinating book. I'll have to add it to the ever growing list of things I'd LOVE to own.
Great stats, btw.

I'm not making fun of the BEAUTIFUL watercolors, but I have him on my background (Thanks to Scottish Tartan Museum) and everytime I turn my computer on, my eye goes right to it and I think "Pelt"
he isn't wearing a sporran, could it be a pouch inside his jacket?

I think "Is it a pelt, a wallet, a waffle." Every time I still end up deciding its an amorphous tan thing. I also try to figure out what the strip of leather poking out from under the opposite side of his vest is.

Ah, you've got a good eye.
Maybe it is a box pleat kilt with the inside buckle.
His pocket looks full of mischief, no?

| | There are a few photos of Mr. Duff posted on here. He has been discussed more than once
A search for William Duff should reveal these.

Thanks BoldHighlander. That was a fun search, great stuff out there past and present.
Seeing the photo of Mr. Duff was the icing on the cake. In my opinion, I think he kept a pelt close for fishing "Flies"

| | | What an excellent post!
I wonder how much of the clothing actually survived Proscription and how much was newly made? Might some of the traditional skills and knowledge have been lost over that period of time? Would that be why some people would level negative criticisms about the paintings?
In all the list of details, I'm surprised there isn't a list of identifiable tartans.
