Los Angeles County Irish Fair
The Los Angeles Irish Fair & Music Festival is this weekend!
I'm planning to go on Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend. I'll be wearing my saffron SWK Heavyweight, and my "Irish-American" t-shirt.
Anyone else going to be there?
There should be lots of great music (as always). This year, according to the website, Gaelic Storm is going to be there, as well as Ken O'Malley and The Twilight Lords (one of my favourites).
A kilt store from Palm Springs always sets up shop in one of the booths, also (hmm, I think I need a new pair of hose, perhaps another kilt pin, maybe one of those etc. etc.)

I'll be elsewhere this weekend, but even if I was in town I would be boycotting the Irish Festival this year.
Traditionally they have held athletic competitions, however this year they decided not to have them. The problem they say is that they have been losing money the last two years, so rather than do more to attract more visitors, they are cutting anything that costs them money. I would expect the fair to quite a bit smaller with less to see than previous years.
The reason they have lost money BTW probably has to do with the weather. Last year it was pouring rain for both days of the festival, very heavy downpours all day long. The year prior to that it actually HAILED on us between bouts of rain.
This year the weather looks great, and I would expect attendance will be back up. Too bad the people going are not going to find some of the stuff they traditionally would, and may decide not to come back the next year.
For those of you going, I strongly ask that you email the organizers (or find some onsite) and tell them you want the athletics back next year!
.. the kilt had concealed a blaster strapped to one thigh and a knife to the other. He was aware of the present gentle customs against personal weapons, but he felt naked without them. Such customs were nonsense anyhow, foolishment from old women - there was no such thing as "dangerous weapons," only dangerous people.
