Aboyne Highland Games on Royal Deeside

Please let me show you the Aboyne Highland Games through my pictures.

The Clan Village

Family banners including my own were hung in the Council of Scottish Armigerous Clans and Families tent where I spent much of the day.

Here I was able to introduce Norman Turnbull, High Seanachie of Turnbull Clan Association to our Convenor Michael Grewar. I hadn't seen Norman since New Hampshire Games last September.

Norman Turnbull chats with Michael Armstrong of Mungbyhurst, while Mungbyhurst's lovely wife, and Michael Grewar look on.

David Waterton-Anderson, our Director of Publications

Michael Grewar with Duncan Cameron of Clan Cameron.

This gentleman from Toronto was wearing the Maple Leaf tartan. I had previously met him when he was over in Scotland for the Muster of the Clans in Selkirk in September 2009.

Chieftain of the Games, The Most Honourable The Marquis of Huntly.

Solo Piping contest

Clan Irvine

Clan Leask

Clan Hay

Clan Fraser

Clan Findlay, who seemed to have the busiest clan tent throughout the day, either it was their clan gathering or their hospitality was exceptionally generous.

Clan Forbes

Clan Leslie

Clan Cameron.
Note a recurring theme here as Clans Leask, Fraser and Cameron each have a guard dog in their tent!

Clan Gordon

Clan Farquharson, with our Member Acaig and his cousin and cousin's husband.
More to follow shortly.

Three views of the massed pipe bands. There were six pipe bands taking part.

Towie & District Pipe Band

Bucksburn & District Pipe Band

All too soon Lonach Pipe Band were called onto the field to Beat the Retreat

Occasionally an interesting shot can be obtained after the games are over and the organisers are starting to clear up.
Here is another activity which can be carried out while wearing a kilt, fork lift truck driving :.
That's all folks.

Is that actually the style these days? Or are they approximating a kilt and need to join Xmarks for some guidance

Lightweight kilts, hemmed below the knee, are quite popular with the Tartan Army of soccer and rugby fans but I noticed that some which I saw on Saturday were knife pleated all round.
There is a company in England which produces box pleated skirts for men in camo prints.
