Gentleman,

GREAT pictures. Thank you for sharing them. Despite what seems to be a bit of interesting weather there were smiles all around. Makes one wish that they were there. Nothing like a brisk stroll in a bit of weather to make the Pub feel oh so much cozier

Wonderful pictures of a somewhat drenched looking but very determined to go ahead parade!

That's an interesting kilt with the yellow fringe and yellow selvedge contrasting with the tartan.
A super set of pics, an excellent display of Scottish heritage in authentic Scottish weather.

Alex,

This is a shot of the Appin Regiment, my 1745 Jacobite living history group. I'm normally marching with them but this year represented Clan Elliot in the parade.

Phil, carrying the Appin banner, and Peter, our piper, have trimmed their great kilts in yellow and red binding respectively. It is not fringe, but a strip of cloth covering the edge of the fabric.

In Richard Waitt's paintings from 1714 of the Laird of Grant's Champion, Alastair Grant Mor, and his Piper, William Cumming, both are wearing coloured trim on their great kilts. Phil and Peter liked the look and decided to use it. We're not sure what the significance is but believe it probably indicates they are part of the Laird's personal household. Phil is even trying to replicate the curved sword held by Alastair Grant Mor.

They are both wearing the tartan worn in the film Rob Rob with Liam Neesom. I have a tank made out of the same tartan from Heritage of Scotland that gets lots of compliments.

there's one early depiction of Highland dress where the belted plaid has the entire border trimmed in fur. I made one like that because I thought it was so cool- the "missing link" between the ancient Irish brat and the Highland belted plaid.

What great photos! What a great event! It's cool to have not only modern clansmens and pipe bands but also the 18th century Highland regiment, the 18th century Culloden clansmen, the WWII British paratroopers etc.

Below are some pix I should have posted earlier but forgot. Two are from the Taste of Scotland on Friday night before the parade. I don't expect to get to sample 18 yr old Glenmorangie or 21 yr old Balvenie again. Wonderful food, too.

I tried to keep an eye out for other X-markers but didn't succeed. Too much snow in my eyes, I guess.
