Better RAF Kilt Pics

Things warmed up around here today and the sun came out, so being on vacation went hiking in my new RAF Tartan kilt. Got some better pics in the sunlight.

Can't see it in the pic but there is a maroon highlight stripe in the tartan so the maroon hose sorta work.

Here's a good pic of the pleat swing in a hand sewn 16 oz kilt by a skilled kiltmaker like Kathy Lare.

And here's a pic of Kathy Lare's perfect pleatwork. Looks like I have the kilt on backwards.

That's the top of the Glen Canyon of the Colorado River in the background. The Paria River Canyon is the next one over. And the Vermillion Cliffs are in the distant background.

On vacation, break in the weather, hiking the canyonlands in a new 16 oz hand sewn kilt...life is good for this olde man.

That kilt looks great. I'm glad you are enjoying it.
One question for you what kilt pin do you have there?
I know you were trying to get something done in that regard.

Funny you should ask McMurdo.

First, the kilt pin in the photos is the X Marks. I love 'em. Think I have six. They work well for me for kilts without a clan association or who I haven't been able to find a clan kilt pin for yet.

On the way home I stopped at the post office and the pin for the RAF Kilt had arrived from Soldier City.

Its a small replica of the WWII Victory ribbon with a wreath. Its the same size as the X Marks pin. Its lighter. The back is a double pin deal like the X Marks kilt pin but the push pin cover dealies are plastic rather than metal. Hope that will work.

Anyhow, since my dad served both with the Royal Air Force and the Army Air Corps as a fighter pilot the American pin sort of goes with the RAF kilt in my mind.

Photo also gives you a view of the maroon highlights in the RAF tartan.

Awesome. That tartan is similar in some ways to the "USAF" tartan... makes me want it even more. I got the wife to agree to let me order come income tax return time. Barb said she could get a custom weave in 16 oz. from DC Daglish (the only readily available is 11 oz. from Strathmore, which I have a swatch of) and she sent me a piece she had from her daughter's upcoming kilt, so I'm going to take her up on it.

Every time I see this RAF kilt it makes me drooooool. Thanks for sharing.

Good show! A very handsome kilt and kilt pin.

As a resident of mild California Climes it seems very strange to see snow in the desert. Cool, but strange.

Maybe I'm confused. The RAF Kilt is through a guy named Arthur Mackie in Scotland. Its copyrighted, wouldn't be right to custom weave it. Kathy Lare was able to order the fabric through him. I chose the 16oz but he also has a lighter weight.

Or, am I misreading and you're talking about another tartan.
