    A bonnet from Matt

Just arrived, a bonnet from Matt Newsome's shop of goodies.

It've very different to what I usually wear and my initial reaction was...'not that keen on it'. My wife, naturally, thinks it looks silly, so...open to all,say what you like, you can't do any worse than the wife

What do you think of this style of headwear?
(Matt thinks it looks good, I guess he should know)

Is it blue? It looks really dark. I was looking at Matt's traditional Jacobite blue bonnets and they look great. Do you have any other photos?

I think it looks great, very traditional.

I don't think it looks silly at all. I think it looks rather dashing.

It'll be a lot more versatile than a typical balmoral or glengarry. Plenty of brim for shading the eyes, for one.

Graham, makes you look positively debonaire....or French...or artistic...

Doesn't seem "Scottish" to me but that just highlights my ignorance of Scottish history.

The bonnet Graham got was a navy blue. It's one of the Highland bonnets we sell for $24 way down on the bottom of this page:
    http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/bonnets.htm

They are more of an eighteenth century style bonnet (though if you want a real eighteenth century style bonnet, get the hand knit version right below it). So you may be more used to seeing them worn with reenactment gear. However, there is no reason at all why you couldn't wear one with a modern kilt, and I know several folks who do.

Graham, I think you look great it in, but that's just me! (I will defer to your wife in all matters Graham, of course!)

I like the bonnet! Very jacobite. I wonder what the sky blue looks like, though.

Gray, as I started to scroll down I thought that the bonnet had a RenFaire 'look' to it and this was accented by your layered top. As others have said, it certainly is different. It's not my style I must admit (very few hats are!) but it suits you, and you suit it, very well. A good choice.
