Braw Lads o' Galashiels

Now I have Ann back home from her recent seven week stay in Waverley Nursing Home at Galashiels I am finding time again to post a few pics. While visiting Ann we were able to take in some of the events of the Gala Braw Lads Festival, which involves a series of rideouts led by the Braw Lad, culminating in the riding of the marches.
Here the mounted cavalcade sets out to ride to Torwoodlee.

Ann wears her Braw Lad ribbons.

Later, Galashiels ex-Service Pipe Band were on hand to lead a parade of towns people out to meet the returning horse riders.

Soon the band were on the march.

Lots of fancy costumes.

Wacky Racers too.

Arkansas Chuggabug
The parade headed out towards the edge of town and in the next post we will pick up on their return.

Galashiels ex-service Pipe Band leads the procession back into town.

Those Wacky Racers again.

More costumes

Another Pipe Band brought up the rear, Stow Pipe Band

St. Ronan's Brass Band

Then the Braw Lad arrived, seen here as he paused momentarily to await the mounted cavalcade catching up.

The grand finale of hundreds of horses riding through town.

Great photos, Alex, looks as if a grand time was had by all (even those poor girls who can't find a real man LOL). Don't those brass band fellows look silly, marching in p@nts!
