Bristol and London

Had a voucher for flights to Bristol and back to use before the winter sets in. It was foggy arriving in Bristol this morning.

St. Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol.

and a braw harbour with lots of bonny boats.

including a galleon, where Pour1Malt and Derek could hold a pirate party!

Even a glimpse of Brunel's famous iron steamship, SS Great Britain

But I didn't want to spend 13 hours in foggy Bristol so I went to Brunel's elegant Temple Meads railway station and caught a train into London for the afternoon.

Hyde Park, London. I would have liked to have done this as a kilted trip, but it would have been too much hassle with airport security on high alert. It was bad enough being followed into the toilets at Bristol Airport by two armed police but I wonder what they would have made of a kilt!

The Serpentine, Hyde Park

Monument to Albert, Prince Consort of Queen Victoria, in Kensington Gardens.

Trafalgar Square

Nelson's Column
And that's it folks, I'm awa to my bed; been up since four o'clock this morning!

Do you think it would really have made much difference? provided of course you didn't wear a kilt pin or dirk!
I kid you not, this whole security thing is making me think twice about leaving the country for a holiday, much as I want to return to Scotland soon.

Great pics C152T, especially as we recognize some of the landmarks from our recent trip!
And I have to agree with Graham, I have had no more security issues traveling while kilted in modern times than traveling in trousers, and I am more comfortable, which makes me happier!

Great pics Alex!
I lived in Bristol for some years and the pics brought back many memories.
The galleon is called the Matthew and it's a reproduction of the ship that John Cabot used to sail to the New World.
Reverend Earl Trefor the Sublunary of Kesslington under Ox, Venerable Lord Trefor the Unhyphenated of Much Bottom, Sir Trefor the Corpulent of Leighton in the Bucket, Viscount Mcclef the Portable of Kirkby Overblow.
