Burns night advice

Recently I posted a question about what to wear on Burns Night. I was looking more for some sense of what was appropriate in the way of formality for such an occasion but I got some welcome advice from several people, including McMurdo, that inspired what I finally came up with.

I might point out parenthetically that I had installed buttons on my kilt (for suspenders) as I did not have a dress belt. However, while that worked up to a point, I have no backside to speak of, and I couldn't keep the kilt from hanging lower in the back than in the front using braces. So I wore a brown belt...which you won't see in the photos but it is there.

I mention this to illustrate the advantages of a nice notch-lapel vest.

BTW, the jacket is an Ettrick tweed from Matt and I have enough extra material to make (or have made) a matching vest--notch-lapel and square bottomed, of course.

Overall I think the combination of accessories and colours worked out quite well. Thanks to Glenn and others.

The TOS AND the kilt hose look great. As does the rest of your kit. Super look.

You are very welcome indeed, I think the outfit turned out very well.

To MacMillan of Rathdown...

I would have thought that the six button notched lapel vest was more Victorian than Edwardian although I do recognize that this style of vest hung on in popularity for quite a long time.

Nevertheless the round point, detachable collar is definitely Edwardian.

So, in response to your post (now deleted?) in the Best Photo thread, I say "Well met, sir!" And thank you.
