Campbell Highland Games and Post Games BBQ

The 2007 Campbell Highland Games

Last year I went to my first Highland Games ever, in Campbell California. The weather was 90+ degrees everyone felt a bit wilted. I was still pretty much a newbie to X Marks the Scot and the whole Scottish thing, and you know what… I had a great time!

This year the weather turned during the week from broiling to pleasant and I and my family returned to the Campbell Community Center for another Highland Games. This time with the whole family clad in “Loud Macleod” kilts. We joined the MacLeod Clan Association and marched in the clan parade with them. We joined our friends and fellow X Markers to watch Alan H. and Tim C. Even though they didn’t have the most successful day at the Heavy athletics, we still cheered and saluted them for their efforts. We enjoyed the hospitality once again of the Clan MacNaughton. We marched through the games behind PiperGeorge playing a brave tune to present Gene and Ruth of Clan MacNaughton with a declaration of friendship from the Nor Cal Rabble of X Marks the Scot for their friendship . The F-H.C.A.G. and I watched our Scottish Country Dance Class perform a wonderful demonstration set . After which we were delighted to join in for some dancing with the rest of the audience (and wee little Xena!) . There were drams lifted and toasts made. Wonderful new kilt related things were purchased and enjoyed.
Haggis were tossed and lovely delectables were consumed.

In attendance at the Games were Tim C. and the lovely Damaris, Alan H. and the Luminous Joan, Bunchdescendant and the Lovely Chris (and the Little Celtic Dancer!), way2fractious, Walkerk and the Amazing Madalyne, Thomsec and his charming family, Michael Steinrok and the lovely Nancy, Kiltimabar (who we weren’t expecting but were delighted to see), Captainjak, Monkey @arms, PiperGeorge and the lovely Gwenlass, and of course The F-H.C.A.G. with Xena and Sinbad and yours truly Panache in tow.

Afterwards Gene, Ruth, and many of the Nor Cal Rabble gathered at the home of The Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess and myself to enjoy a post games BBQ where we were joined by Gryphonaire and the enchanting Ginger.

It was a great day.

Here are a few pictures but hopefully there will be more to come.

A very nice kilt pin that Jake helped me pick out, I thought it a most appropriate pin...

Michael Steinrok, Nancy, w2f, and Monkey @arms enjoying a bit of a rest after a fun day at the Games.

How we slice watermelons at the home of the F-H.C.A.G. and Panache... (I may have just possibly watched Highlander one time too many...)

Bunchdescendant

The Little Celtic Dancer (you just have to love her taste in shirts)

If you were curious how Panache holds his liquor...

More pictures to come from other X Markers!

One last thing...

The Mulberry Street Business Association of Fretwell Falls extend their thanks that so many great people could join the festivities after the Games.

Cheers

Great pics, commemorating a great day. Thanks so much for your warm hospitality, Panache and the F.H.A.C.G. I believe Alan and Tim both took part in the final event of the Heavy Games, tossing the empty kegs of Moylan's Kilt Lifter Ale for distance, tossing the empty bottles is more my speed.

Best regards,

Jake

What a feast was had!

Panache dispatching the watermelon

It appears Panache is also a railroad barron.

The fabled town of Fretwell Falls - just a flag stop far off the main line.

A close-up reveals the town is holding a celebration!
