Chatelherault Highland Games - Hamilton

Curiosity took me to Chatelherault Highland Games, a brand new games held on the Duke of Hamilton's estate at Chatelherault, near the town of Hamilton in west central Scotland.
The games arena was in a lovely setting, overlooked by the chateau.

Paul was there with his girlfriend Laura who took the group shot.

Both pleated to the stripe. Paul was wearing Auld Lang Syne tartan and I wore my USA kilts Hunting MacLeod which was pleated to the yellow stripe by Rocky.
Kilbarchan Pipe Band was the only pipe band present, and there were no clan tents, one would have expected at very least Clan Hamilton would be there.

Among the huge selection of market stalls there was one selling kilts and accessories.

Ceilidh musicians and dancers.

Highland Dance competition.
More to follow shortly.

Highland dancers.

There were heavy events, with unusually, a trouser clad commentator, somebody ought to have loaned the poor guy a kilt. Here David Dowson (England) throws the 28lb weight for distance.

Weight for distance, Gregor Edmunds (England)

Caber Tossing

Land Rover pull

22lb stone - Sebastian Wenta (Poland)

22lb stone - David Dowson (England).
That's all folks.

I bet those weights were 56'ers!
Anyway, if you got Sebastian Wenta and Gregor Edmonds to show up, well....it doesn't get any better than that!

Just to keep you factually correct as you usually are, Gregor Edmunds is actually Scottish and he won the Carmunnock Games which I posted on the forum. He is local to Carmunnock.

Thanks for posting those, Alex.
And I like Rathdown’s “doghouse” comment!
