    Circa 2000BC Round Barrows

Yesterday evening we took a hike up to some ancient burial chambers not for from where we live.
Its a steep walk to the top of the mountain and after about an hour you reach here.

The mrs was glad of a break

Then a different route back down to a little watering hole we know. Had a lovely pint of morland old speckled hen. Can recommend it to anyone who may not have tried it, 5.2%.

Not many pics I'm afraid. Its an 8 1/2 mile trek all round and we put our foot down to get back off the mountain before it got to dark. I can assure you my Cilt was strapped on. You will have to trust me.

You know quite a few "little watering holes" Derek and I'm pleased to say you've shown me a couple of them.

    Best Regards John

All my UK trips have been with elderly mother so we have had to pass up the more strenuous excursions (although she has tottered through Bronze Age copper mines in N Wales, out to Iron Age villages in Cornwall, and other exertions!). If Bob and I hit a lottery ticket and are able to return, I'd hope to visit more of the likes shown here. Thanks for the pics -- and the reminder of how good Old Speckled Hen tastes LOL

That looks like the setting for the 1994 film "The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill, but Came Down a Mountain":

By the look of the photos, it looks more like hiking UP a mountain and coming DOWN a hill. It looks like a strenuous hike up. Harder going up than down.
