    Easter Hike

With everyone off doing their thing on Easter I had the place to myself. We're finally rid of all the snow in my area so I could expand my hiking a bit.

Heading up along Three Mile Canyon. In 1993 the Burgett Fire raced through.

A typical New Mexico spring day. Windy as bloomin' heck out and a cold wind at that!

Down in Three Mile Canyon. This time of year it runs dry but come the monsoon's, stay the heck away it can run fast and deep, especially if the monsoon's hit to the north. Two years ago we had the remnants of a hurricane pass over and dump 11 inches in twelve hours. The canyon runs into an arroyo that one needs to cross to climb the hill to the house, the arroyo ran six feet deep for three days.

Towards the end of the hike it got a bit warm.

This last pic is looking out over James Canyon. The burned area is from the Peneasco Fire. The flames came within 7/10's of a mile of my folk's place. My dad and his hotshot crew, along with other crews, kept it from leaping the canyon and running into the nearby subdivision's. If you look real close you can see patches of snow still on the north facing slope.

It was, though I do miss the "green" that one finds in the Pacific Northwest

A great reminder that fire season is swiftly approaching.
