For this we prepared special shortbreads, the famous “galette des rois”, a cake traditionally eaten on Twelfth Night inside of which you will find a miniature figurine that will entitle you to be king or queen for the day.
Très bien! My Cajun in-laws will soon be sending for King Cakes from Louisiana in anticipation of Mardi Gras.
In Cajun culture, the tradition is that he or she who finds the baby in the cake has to throw the next party during Epiphany!
I collect King Cake Babies from Haydel's Bakery in New Orleans. This is one of my favourites:

A NOLA Police Constable. If only they'd do a Highlander baby.

Great traditions, thanks for sharing with us.
The figurine inside the cake brings back childhood memories, when my mother would bake a cake which would contain a small coin or trinket wrapped in greaseproof paper.

Great photos, Robert. Reminds me of when I was a young lad, My Great-aunt kept the old traditions alive for the rest of the family.
