First Kilt Pictures

Here they are. Pictures of my first time in a kilt. Some minor problems (the sporran chain wasn't long enough, Don't have a proper belt. I think it'll have to be hemmed up a couple of inches.) The kilt is an SWK Economy in Black Watch.

What do you think?

You look great in the kilt. I hope it's not the kilt you want hemmed up - it looks a perfect length to me. And if you don't mind me mentioning, have you noticed how good a kilt looks on the "fuller figure" - I should know.

The kilt looks really good and looks to be a good length; I wouldn't hem it. I really like that belt, it looks good with the day sporran.

The length of the kilt and belt are both fine. The belt you have is a perfect daywear belt. The fancy buckles (generally rectangular) are really supposed to be for formal occassions. The trend in recent years has brought them to be used for daywear.

My only suggestion is to buy either a leather sporran strap or pick up a slim woman's black belt (with a small inconspicuous buckle) and replace the chain strap. Chain straps will abraid your front apron over time and they are for formal wear.

I think the kilt looks great on you your smile says it all, the length looks fine I would echo what Panache says about the sporran belt, however the Kilt belt you have is perfect. The one thing I will suggest, though it certainly is not a big deal, you may want to get yourself some different colour kilt hose, may I suggest a pair of black, and, or dark green or navy blue for the Black Watch.

I have been able to pick up some kilt hose that a perfect for summer from an ebay seller in a myriad of colours

I agree with the others. The kilt length looks good. Belt is fine appears to be around 2"? With your proportions you might consider a wider belt later on but as Panache said, the rectangular buckles are really not intended for day wear if that's what you meant by "proper" kilt belt. The sporran could be a smidgen lower but it doesn't look out of place. My rule of thumb is that the sporran should be high enough so it doesn't bounce off my thighs when I walk and low enough so it doesn't rub against the belt (usually about 1 hand width or less). A bit more slack in the sporran strap would make it all more comfortable so I'd make that my first purchase. Being able to easily swing the sporran around to the side or get it on and off is a great thing when using for daily wear.

I would say you're hooked, I personally like to have some kind of connection to the tartans I wear, so if I were you I might go for a family tartan or district tartan for where my family came from, or even possibly one of the American tartans.
