    First Solo on Another Type

After I obtained my Private Pilot Licence on the Cessna 152 two seat trainer plane, I went on to fly the Piper Cherokee low wing four seater. Over the years I have occasionally flown the four seat Cessna 172 under supervision but today I finally took the step of getting checked out solo on type. After some circuits, the instructor stepped out and I went off and flew some more circuits solo. This is the obligatory pilot with plane shot after the flight.
G-BLHJ is a Cessna F172P, assembled at Reims in France in 1983.

Well done Laddie, yer mammy must be proud. Seriously, I have been talking about taking flying lessons for years, you have inspired me to investigate availability, costs etc. Who says you can't teach an ol dog new tricks.

Congratulations Alex. That photo says it all. I had the same grin when I picked up my Private Pilots license in 1984. However, I did it the opposite of you. I couldn't fit in a 152 (I'm 6'3" 210lbs.) I started out in a Piper Warrior. Due to scheduling conflicts, I ended up soloing in an Archer (great airplane, it's 20hp heavier than the Warrior.) After I picked up my ticket, I cross trained in the 172.

So what's next? Are you going to start on the Instrument rating or just enjoy VFR for awhile?
