    Flagstaff Arizona Celtic Festival 2008

Just a few pics. The olde guy lost his glasses somewhere...and had to break away and run over to the mall to have a new eye exam and order up a new set then get back to Page before sundown wearing Rx sunglasses.

Did run into Keys and a bunch of other folks whose names I forget now because the eyeglass deal was so traumatic. Also ran into the couple who puts the Festival together...weird, they called me by name out of the blue. Go figure. I gotta start a Page branch of the Norther Arizona Celtic Heritage Society...

    Here's a few pics.

That's Mt. Eldon and the San Francisco Peaks in the background.

The City of Glendale, Arizona Police Pipes and Drums forming up for the noon parade.

The color guard forming up for the noon parade.

    And my favorite...the PIRATES!

Did some shopping, got a shepherd's crook I'd wanted. Got a good price and no shipping for that unusual shaped item. Picked up a House of Gordon kilt pin for my dress Gordon kilt. Chandler, AZ Fire Dept is forming a new pipe and drum band, bought one of their t-shirts. And, picked up a nice tote bag with an embroidered saltier on it to carry it in.

Hope more folks got more pics than I did. And, sorry I missed some folks for having to cut out and replace the specs.

Tired, a 275 mile round trip across the rez roads (asphault on sand makes the roads ride a lot like a sailboat in choppy seas).

Don't get me wrong, I love pirates, but why were they at the Celtic Festival?

It seems to be a common phenomenon lately. I don't understand it, either.

Almost seems like a Ren Fest type of thing that's spilling over into the Celtic Festival arena...

They had a Norse organization tent there too, selling historically inaccurate Viking helmets with horns. Lots of kids running around wearing them...figure if they could sail to Scotland to spice up the gene pool they could come to Celtic games.

The games at Elizabeth, CO, had Vikings and bellydancers this year.

    Hi Ron,

I was one of the guys you met. It was nice meeting you. I was out in Flagstaff for the United States School of Piping July 11-18 and fortunately got to stay for some of the festival. Had to leave early though to catch a red eye to Philly.

    Ron,

Thanks for the first photo especially -- it was nice to see "the peaks" again peaking out from Mt. Eldon. I seem to remember standing outside the mall in Flag looking up Mt. Eldon...

Aye Michael, I remember. Now I understand the pants better. Sorry I was in such a rush to get to the mall to order up a replacement pair of specs. Dang, it gets worse every day...olde olde olde.

Piping School...in Flagstaff....how very cool. Did you meet the young guy who's the big whiz on bagpipes in this area...can't recall his name...would be about 20 years old not I'm guessing...or maybe just 17 or 18?

Yes, I believe you are speaking of Michael McD., who is 18. He's quite good... He piped in the clans at the festival.
