    Flight to Perth

Let's don our kilts and go fly to Perth on the Cessna!

After departure from Carlisle Airport, flying north the first town we pass over is Newcastleton, population 1,000, scene of the recent Clan Elliot gathering. Today the annual Newcasteton Show is taking place, no doubt there will be a pipe band down there in the showground.

Shakend. The large white baronial pile is Shankend House, also can be seen the Slitrig Water and the disused railway viaduct.

Next we passed over my home town of Hawick.

The River Teviot in the Mansfield Area of Hawick. The large white building in bottom left is Pringle of Scotland's Glebe Mill. Knitwear manufacturing in this factory ceased last year when production shifted to the far east but the buildings are still used for warehousing and there is a small retail shop. There are still around ten textile factories in production in Hawick, including Lochcarron, Peter Scott & Co, Barrie Knitwear, Lyle and Scott, and Johnson's of Elgin. The large red building is Teviotdale Leisure Centre, on the site of the town's former railway station.

Residential areas of Hawick, from top to bottom Stirches, Silverbuthall and Burnfoot. I can see my house in this shot.

Galalaw, Hawick. One of the red and white sheds in bottom left is the home of Hawick Sock Company - House of Cheviot, makers of high quality kilt hose.
The large house near top of picture, just left of centre, is Stirches House, nineteenth century home of the Scott-Chisholmes, and which is now St. Andrews Care Home where Ann now lives.
    More to follow shortly.

Concluding with the pilot and plane shot at Perth, with my friend Mike who flew us there, allowing me an opportunity to take these photos. No photos of the return trip as it was my turn to fly the Cessna 172 from Perth back to Carlisle.

Thanks for the pictures Alex. There was a time I was at a local or regional airport every weekend - I really miss light aircraft and flying. Seeing your pictures was like flying again - Thank You.

    Regards

    Great photos!

I didn't realize Newcastleton was so large since I didn't have the opportunity or time to explore beyond the main road running through it.
