Glen Isla

We met this big fella when we were out hiking in Glenisla on Tuesday.

Glen Isla is a braw place for a kiltie and his lass to go walking.

Our walk started at Craigisla Bridge

Soon we were high on a narrow path along the side of the gorge, high above Reekie Linn.

Hayat found a cosy niche in a hollowed out tree trunk.

Yes I have, not all(quite a few actually) red deer " heads" have the classic even "Monarch of the Glen" look, particularly from the wetter west Highlands where the ground is far more rugged and the food is not of good quality.

If I am not mistaken that picture was taken on the A82 road at the Loch Tulla vantage point, just as you enter Rannoch Moor going North. That was "Stanley Stag"(a wild deer who got too trusting) who met a sad, cruel and untimely end at the hands of hooligans who peppered him with, as I recall, over a 100 air gun pellets and had to be finally put out of his misery by a local deer stalker. "Stanley" was actually "going back" and was past his sell by date(another reason for the poorer antlers), but no animal deserved the dreadful fate dealt out to him.

Stanley's colleague in the picture took the hint and was never seen there again.I have to say the sad and sorry event was predicted by many of us.

My grandfather's family is from the Glen Isla area, specifically Mains of Creuchies and Bellaty House. Some of my ancestors are buried in the cemetary in Glen Isla. My grandfather often spoke of the "Reeki Linn".
The last time that I was there the "old house" at Bellaty was boarded up.
I sure would love to be able to buy it and move there, but alas, the law does not seem to favor me moving, without paying a huge amount to the government.
