Grand Rapids Burns Night 2010

Last night was the Grand Rapids Scottish Society's Annul Burns Night Supper. It was a wonderful night of poetry, prose, pageantry, song and dance. It was also the first time these three XMarkers and their wives had the chance to meet in person and we shared a wonderful evening!

Sam (sammac), Dan (danwoodhead) and Ken (HSP), and the guest of honor.

Piping the the haggis.

Grand Rapids & District Pipe Band

Dad and Rachel learning the steps.

Excellent pics, no shortage of pipers there.
I have to say as a native Scot it seems rather strange viewing all these Burns Supper pics from North America already, when Burns Night here in Scotland is not until tomorrow!

In the US, they usually have them on a Sat. night, either before or after the Bards actual b-day. That way, we can stay up late having fun without worrying about making it to work the next day.

I think it has to do with the international dateline, Alex.
Actually, it does seem to become sort of like the Christmas Season here. By the time February arrives, I will have attended three Burns Suppers on three successive Saturday nights. My wife says that she will be "Burned" out!
