    H&T Robert Burns Supper - January 29, 2011

Here are a few pictures from the Heather & Thistle Society's Annual Robert Burns Supper. It was a small event this year compared to previous - we had only 250 people, but it was still a wonderful evening.

Here are the Houston Highlanders who opened the evening

Also, the Gold Medal-winning St. Thomas Episcopal School Pipes and Drums (Notice the black hose?)

The St. Thomas School also has Highland Dancers, who delighted the whole audience

The haggis with tatties and neeps!!

The Address to the Haggis! (I'm seated on the left)

    The Immortal Memory

    After-Dinner Activities -

Ceilidh dancing with our own TriolaMJ

I escape dancing to look at Sam Caldwell's portrait of the Bard, with Sam Caldwell on the right sans sporran. (I wear enough sporran for both of us.)

A few more images to post.

Looks like a great party. I'm loving the ancient-colored trews!

    Excellent pics.
I had to laugh at your description of this as a "small" event.

Well, we peaked at 750 about 5 years ago; so, there is a real fear that the downward trend will continue. (We need Gerard Butler to make The Rose in order to renew interest in the Bard and Scottish things in general; but, I see that it is no longer planned for production.)

The floor in this one reminds me of one just like it up at the local college that I and another gent were suppose to buff, when I worked there many moons ago. Some guy was trying to sell a new buffing technique, and he saturated the floor with water(!!)

Once it dried the wood had buckled and the whole floor had to be replaced (you can imagine how expensive that was!)
