Talking Highland Weekend at Texas Ren Fest

Last weekend's theme at the Texas Renassiance Festival was "Highland Fling". It was a nice cool day, and well, y'all know the drill, I took a bunch of photos ....

Even though it was Highland weekend, right in the gate I ran into a hoard of barbarians...

Though some barbarians are a pleasure to see ...

First show of the day, Tartanic.

As one might expect, there were a lot of kilt and tartan "don'ts", I'll just let this fellow and Spiderman represent them all....

But not everyone in tartan was doing it wrong!

I ran into my friends Jennifer, who tells fortunes at faire, and wears a really big hat, and Eric, who was dressed as a time traveler...

This kiltie has a man-sized beer stein.

    more to come...

Highland Weekend at Texas Ren Fest II

Of course I took in a Circa Paleo show...

and ran into my friend and fellow Jenny fanboy Steve.

We also took in a Wine & Alchemy show,

    and last but not least, a little bellydance;

Great pics! I was there on Saturday. The guy in the mini-skirt and tartan sash was there that day too. *groan*

Tartanic was awesome as usual. Those guys really put on a good show. They have a new piper this year (the Indian-looking fellow) - he is VERY good. What's interesting is that the girl in your picture from the Wine & Alchemy show was selling Tartanic CDs during their performance. I thought she was just one of their groupies, and didn't know she had a show of her own.

I also took in a Circa Paleo show... it was the first time I'd seen them. Very good music! It got a little somber for me, though, when she played the theme song to "Last of the Mohicans" (I don't know the real name of that song).

The coolest thing I saw all day, by far, was the woman riding the gorgeous black Percheron. Didn't get a good picture of her, but this is the best I could do:

As much as I am trying not to be - I am quite impressed by MacSpiderman!

I must visit one of these one day.
