    Thumbs up Kilted 5K

Man, it's been a busy week!

Yesterday, (3/19) Shelley and I, and our friend Mindy participated in the "Lookin' Good Shamrock Strut" 5 and 10K walk and run presented by the Houston Eye Associates Foundation. This event benefits programs providing eye exams, vision saving medications and other vital eye services to the less fortunate. We did the 5K walk part, although Shelley and I double-timed part of it.

Here's Shelley and I getting ready to start, Shelley made some special shamrock themed running skirts for her and Mindy, I wore a USA semi-trad and some soccer socks.
And prepared by carb loading at the pub the night before....

I was the only kilted person there, but it went over pretty well, they photo'ed me for their newsletter. If anyone asked "why the kilt?" I asked them "why would you want to wear anything as restrictive as pants for this sort of thing?" It was a timed event, and I finished about the middle of the pack for my age group, and ahead of my friends, which is all that really counts!

Other than it being a little warm towards the end, (it was an 80 degree, calm day) I thought the kilt was great for the long stride, fast walk I do at this kind of thing, I had no comfort issues at all. If I did this sort of thing regularly, I might consider investing in a USAK Casual just to get something a bit lighter.

Serious issue, but fun at the same time - best of both worlds - and great pics!
