Great photos, as usual, and interesting info. My late aunt, a semi-pro photographer, had the same experience trying to "shoot" condors in the wild prior to the whole capture/captive breeding/release plan came along. I recall looking at pictures of black specks in a blue sky over the Sespe sanctuary, maybe circa 1975?

The LA Zoo "fostered" some of the condor chicks after the removal of condors from the wild, the beginning of that somewhat controversial plan for saving the species. They were not on public view, because they were being raised for release, but I remember walking through the zoo and seeing the edges of the "off limits" area. They have come a long way since, but obviously still have a long road to true recovery. I'm not sure there is any room left in California for the California Condor, good to know that the Four Corners can play host.

As for "Clan Holstein" -- wouldn't Angus be a better answer?

Great pictures Ron. Thank you for sharing with us as you do so often. That is great kilt and I love your letterman jacket. Your class is just a couple of years before mine. I sure wouldn't fit into my high school jacket. I gave my jacket to my best friend when I quit school to enlist. I have a boot camp issued uniform from that era that has a 29" waist. Ha ha.

Hey, that's why I had a NEW letterman jacket made to fit my aging body...

And you're right sydnie7, the pitch at the viewing site said that condor chicks are raised in LA, Idaho, Mexico, and a few other places I forgot. The two newbies on this release were raised at the San Diego Wild Animal Park.

Great post, Ron. You paint quite a picture. Would love to see one of those birds in flight one day.
