    Kiltie Hamebrew! 4

Not sure if the number but we finally brewed this past weekend.

Here's some pictures...a few kilt pictures.

Our simple setup for all grain brewing

Batch 31 IPA ...drinking some of Batch 30 smokey porter

Checking the temperature of the mash

    A closeup of the mash

    Quinlan helps check the sparging

The boiling wort with lots of whole hops

That's it...we didn't get a pictures of the wort chiller or the transfer to the carboy. It's a good thing we made a mess

    Cheers

I like how you went over specs on all of the grain. Guess you'll come in higher %ABV than the recipe calls for! Did you recalculate the IBUs for the recipe based on your malt? What did your OG hit, compared to the recipe's target? Looking good!

Yes, I believe my wife did. She's the better brewer
The OG was 1052...a lil' lower than previous batches. About every 3rd or 4th batch is an IPA. We're going to dry hop this batch Yum!

Looks great! But I'm hoping that propane tank was not being used indoors on a burner (or even really stored indoors): I've always heard that both are really dangerous without commercial-type ventilation. I remember reading about this on the Homebrew Digest years ago, and I'm sure it crops up there with some regularity.

I do my all grain brewing inside and outside (and sometimes my kids are pressed into service, too): mash and sparge inside; boil the wort outside.

    Cheers!

Sounds like something my wife would want to experiment with. I wouldn't mind if she did! Actually, I'd love it if she took up home brewing!
By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
