Last Flight of 2007

Photos courtesy of one of my back seat passengers who took care of my camera during the flight - here I am seen taxi-ing out at Carlisle - you'll just have to believe my word that I was wearing my 5-yard Dark Island kilt.

Flooding near the airport - plenty of water hazards on the golf course.

The swollen River Eden

Flooding upstream of Carlisle - I guess David Dalglish won't be playing much golf after the heavy rains since Christmas.

Flooding in West Cumbria, with the Solway Coast in the background.

The Solway Coast. Criffel Hill, near Dumfries is the high point in background, slightly left of centre.

Between the cloud layers, with the sun sinking low in the south-western sky.

Co-pilot Keith

At low tide a sandbar appears near the head of the Solway between the channels of the Eden and the Esk

The Eden and the Esk. The Eden in foreground has flowed through Cumbria (England) while the Esk beyond it flows from Scotland. Where the rivers meet they become tidal and the Solway Firth then forms the coastal boundary between Scotland and England.

Cleared to land.

Wonderful photos as always Alex. Thanks, have a happy Hogmanay.

Those are wonderful pictures. I've always wanted to learn how to fly (I've lived an 1/4 mile from a small airport my whole life). Maybe once I get to the end of my kilt wish list, I'll start on that
