Legal Dinner on the Duke of Roxburghe's Estate

The Faculty dinner took place tonight in the grand surroundings of the Roxburghe, one of the Duke's smaller properties, much less grand than Floors Castle but a fine pile nonetheless. This is the annual night when local lawyers dine with the Sheriff (=judge) and Procurator Fiscal (=crown prosecutor, district attorney). An expensive night but at least it counts as networking so is tax deductible. This is the first view of the property approached along a half mile wooded driveway from the public road.
The Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course is situated on the 50 000 acre Roxburghe Estates, owned by the Duke of Roxburghe.
Roxburghe Estates is situated in and around Kelso in the Scottish Borders - 1 hour drive from Edinburgh and Newcastle.
Floors Castle, the home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe and The Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course are situated 3 miles apart on the Estate.
The Roxburghe Country House Hotel has been a hotel for over 20 years and was formerly known as "Sunlaws". When The Roxburghe Golf Course was built and opened in 1995, the hotel's name was changed to "Roxburghe".
"Sunlaws" was owned and built in the early 1800's by Robert Scott-Kerr. It stayed in his family until acquired by the Duke of Roxburghe (a distant cousin of the original Kerr of Chatto), in the 1960's.
The house was then used as the Estates Office for some time before being turned into the gracious 22 bedroom country house hotel that it is today.

Very nice, Alex. Why the grouchy smiley next to the title?

You are looking quite dapper there Alex. It looks like a wonderful place for a dinner, I hope you had a good night despite the expense.

Why the grouchy smiley next to the title?
I wondered why as well - don't know how that got there as I'm sure I remember checking that there were no icons selected when I typed the post.
