Lochcarron Visitor Centre, Cunningham & Modern Tartans

With just over a week to go until the Muster of the Clans I needed to get myself over to Lochcarron Visitor Centre this morning to get organised with display material.

I live just eleven miles from Lochcarron Visitor Centre. You can't miss the Highland Stag Topiary from the road passing the entrance. Anyway the door is now open so let's go inside.

As you enter the reception area the grand fireplace with the tartan bookends immmediately catches the eye.

Those kilts either side of the fireplace, on left is Auld Scotland tartan.

On the right is Highland Granite tartan.

The current theme for the kilt mannequins was modern fashion tartans by Lochcarron as part of a day wear outfit, and here is a kilt in the Isle of Skye tartan with appropriate accessories.

By the time I had done my business and taken a few photos it was lunchtime, and Lochcarron have an excellent tearoom.
    More to follow shortly

Oh, thank you for these pics, Alex. I love the Auld Scotland tartan. Since I have a kilt in Highland Granite, it's interesting to see how a really sharp suit with it would go. (not that I ever expect to look as good as that dummy. )

I purchased this length of 10 oz/yd lightweight wool fabric in Cunningham tartan for use at the Clan Cunningham booth at the forthcoming Muster of the Clans. This fabric is also used for accessories and ladies' skirts.

Three swatches of Cunningham Modern tartan. Left to right 13 oz/yd; 10 oz/yd and the Strome or 16/17 oz/yd weight.

This portrait of Leslie (LAscotswoman) which I took at the Edinburgh gathering illustrates accessories for a lady in Cunningham Modern. A few hours after this photo was taken, her hat was stolen as a souvenir by an inebriated young scotsman but she has since been able to source a replacement.

A swatch of Hunting Cunningham, the same tartan is also known as Hunting Nicolson.

Weathered Hunting Cunningham or Weathered Hunting Nicolson.
I really like this tartan, now I need to save up my pennies for my next kilt!!

Cheers for those Alex. I must get up your way sometime. I'd love to visit Lochcarron and all the other top notch places you have around Hawick.
    Best Regards John

Nice photos Alex. That's the first time I've seen the Auld Scotland tartan. Nice looking tartan.
