I love this tartan, both since its a documented pre-Culloden tartan and since it comes from just a few miles down the road from where my ancestors lived in Uig, Skye on the Trotternish Peninsula. I'd "outgrown" it and could only wear it with kilt strap extenders.
With my recent weight loss I can now wear it with just the normal straps. So, took it out for a hike to the Horseshoe Bend Overlook of Glen Canyon. The wonderful thing about the trail to the overlook is its is like a line of ants - only the ants are all tourists from all over the World.
Today I was stopped by a guy who asked my clan and said he was an Irwin...then another guy who was a Stewart. Then a guy asked to take my pic and said I looked great. Then a beautiful young lady went wild and must have taken about a dozen pics as I hiked towards her. When I got up to her she struggled with English but said I looked wonderful, beautiful and handsome. I could hear her shutter zinging away when I hiked on.
Then a guy stopped me and wanted to take my picture with HIS girlfriend. The hike is more of a meet and greet than a hike. Even was able to exchange some Yah-Tay's with local Navajo families making the trek.

Congrats on your trip with an old friend and meeting some new ones! Fabulous scenery, as always, and the colors of that tartan look right at home.

That is a great tartan and, as Sydnie said, it looks like it was made for that environment.
You may have to go elsewhere for a hike but it sounds like you've found a great spot for a social!

Good to see your treatments didn't sap too much of your energy.
Nice looking kilt too.

Frustration! I had to go kiltless at Easter because I am awaiting delivery of a sporran strap.
The brown leather sporran I was given has a chain which is too short, and the white rabbit skin one I was lent has a chain which has broken once too often.
I decided to forget about chains and go for plain leather (like the strap I had with my army pouch). I actually ordered one in brown and one in black, but it’s been three weeks now and there’s no sign of them!
Will have to phone the supplier in the morning. He’s also supposed to be sending me another pair of kilt hose.
The weather has turned cold now, so there are warm clothes I have had to avoid that I can now wear with the kilt.
Pictures are coming . . .
Regards,
Mike
