Me and My Kilt (Pictures)

Some of us were showing off our kilts and I thought that this would be a good place for those that want to post their kilt picutre. Suggestive criticism is probably fine and that will help us get a feel for how others see our style.

My wife has trouble taking a good, non blurry picture and I was not even ready when she snapped this one. The other two were blurry and so this is what you get. ha ha This is what I wore for St. Patrick's day evening. I hope when I get a wider belt the kilt will not hang as low. I measured how UK said, and this is how the Mocker looks on me.

In my opinion, it is way too long. You may need to wear it like a traditional. You know, up to the bottom of your ribs. I think Kilts look best if you can see some knees.

The same thing happened to me when I got my UtiliKilt. I’m going to order the next size shorter when/if I get another.

Other than that, you look great.

That is what I thought too, but ordered it how UK said to. I can't fix it nor get it shortened. I am disappointed. My black survival is that way too. No wonder more people call it a dress or skirt.

It is uncomfortabel now even wearing it as as high as I do. I just wish I had a chance to really try one on and get it fitted right.

Most Utilikilt photos I see show them completely covering the knees. It looks too long when compared to the traditional kilt length. But since these things aren't traditional, is this the way Utilikilts has conceived the design? Anyway, if these kilts have no selvedge, why can't they be shortened if you want? Have you asked a tailor look at it.? Just curious.

Nice look, but I agree about the length. That being said, I think that UK's are intended to be worn lower. I would also order the next size shorter when I get another one. Luckily, I can wear it a little high and hit at the top to mid-knee, so it is not too bad.

You might see if they will work an exchange...

I re-hemmed my first UK - you have to take out the bottom sewing-in of the pleats, rehem it, and then re-sew in the pleats. Not too difficult overall. For my second UK I requested it shorter than their instructions claim.

Of course it's only personal preference, but I think a UK looks best with regular sock pushed down, and with some kind of boot, like high top trainers, or combat boots. I'm sure it could be hemmed up by someone who does alterations. The actual fit, like around the waist, looks pretty good to me.

Today I received my two inch wide belt that I had made. They even threw in a buckle as I said I was going to find one later on. He wanted me to use the belt right away. It is really stiff but will form with more use.

With the wider belt, my black Survival UK rides up higer now and I think I won't need to shorten the kilt. But I did stop in to a new alterations place and after the lady looked at it, said it wouldn't be hard to do, just time consuming. Then she added that she never worked on a kilt before. She will charge about $25 which I didn't think was too bad, and so may have my tan Mocker UK shortened if the belt doesn't do the trick for that too.

I will post other pictures when I get ready to see what I will wear for Easter church service and for that day.
