    Modern & Traditional in Bali

The Better half and I have just returned from Bali after 3 glorious weeks of sunshine, good food, friends and enjoyment. I decided to take a couple of kilts with me. One being a modern style made by, who I consider, the best value for money modern kiltmakers, Alt.Kilt and a Highland Clans 13oz House of Edgar MacLaren tartan in ancient colours.

The Alt.Kilt is heavy 11/12oz cotton with detatchable side pockets in tan.

Both kilts were extremely well received with many of the locals associating them with Scotland and insisting that if I wanted another one, they had some in the shop for a good price. If you have been to Bali you will understand what I am talking about. Most of the tourists I bumped into gave them the thumbs up and thought that they were a sensible item to wear in the tropics

Without further ado, a couple of pics

I was also lucky enough to find a tailor who was willing to have a go at producing 2 bespoke kilt jackets and waistcoats, based on photos of HRH Prince Charles's outfits. I chose lightweight wool fabrics based on some posts in a thread on suitable cloth for hot summer climates
Below are 2 sneek peak photos of the results

Yes - please post the details: I'm off to Bali this summer and would love to take the opportunity to get a couple of jackets made.

    I like it all.
The jackets look like linen. They must be very lightweight wool.

Could you show us the picture of HRH Prince Charles' jacket that your jacket is based on? Were there any difficulties in getting the tailor to make it? I particularly like the simply cut of the jacket coupled with the lapel and straight bottom of the waistcoat.

And I didn't know you had an Alt.kilt, is that new?

Wonderful! I'm a big fan of HRH's style of tailoring, and they've pulled it off for you very well indeed.

They do look almost light enough to be linen, maybe I can talk the wife into a trip to Bali...

As was said in my original post the photos I gave to the tailor were one of HRH Prince Charles. They are ones that I have saved from posts on the the revelant thread on this forum.

The tailor is very good and was recomended by several people who have been using him for a number of years. The tailoring takes as little as 3 days but took 6 in our case as, she that must be obeyed, ordered 2 tailored leather coats.

Details of the tailor are: JERMYN STREET, POPPIES LANE 1 KUTA BALI, TELEPHONE 0361-763531, EMAIL - jermyn_street@yahoo.com

For those who may visit Bali the shop is at the Jalan Legian end of Poppies Lane 1, about 50-60 metres west of Un's lane on the south side

Now for the best bit, price is A$90.00 per unit in the cloth I chose.

I spoke to the tailor regarding ordering via email and he is more than happy to do so. He does not have access to tweed material but has a vast selection of suit material available. He stated that postage was based on weight and to Australia for example would be about A$30.00

If a person were to order by email then he would require tailor style measurements, photo(s) drawing of the style you want and cloth you want to use. He speaks and understands english very well.
