A suggestion about hose

This half meter of doublewide remnant I learned to purl on is going under the scissors before I pay that kind of money for a pair of socks.

Scott,
I'm not sure if I have seen the tartan fabric bag hose worn formally before, actually I have only seen them worn by historical re-enactors. I have a pair that my lovely wife made but have only worn them to the Renaissance Fair.

While I can see them possibly working with one of the older style formal doublets I'm not so sure they would work well with a Prince Charlie coatee's clean modern lines. If it were me, I think I would rather stick with a pair of nice regular kilt hose and save my pennies for a nice pair of diced or argyll hose instead of wearing the cadadh. If Robert Amyot or Matt newsome were to wear bag hose with one of their more historically inspired doublets I could see them working, but with a modern PC I just see them not quite matching style-wise and standing out in a way that detracts from your overall look.

Re: Monochrome sett pictures here please
I got a new sweater vest for Christmas, gave it a chance to tone down the claret shirt. I like this a lot better, though I had to blouse close to ten inches off the sweater to make it work.
Thank you everyone for your input in this thread. There is more good info about monochrome sett tartans here than all the rest of the internet put together.
