My first wearing of the great kilt

OK, it was on Halloween, which accounts for the blue paint - not Wallace, but his pal Hamish's dad (the one who got wounded in every fight). My daughter had been watching Alex Cameron demonstrate the great kilt at Stone Mountain for years and was excited to help me out. Here are a couple of ways I wore it:

Apron corners tied and over the neck, plaid pulled through the loop

Plaid pulled through the loop and worn as a hood and cape

Donning it in the more commonly seen configuration

I really liked how it feels. It made me think of trying some of my 18 oz material this way - too bad it is such a pain to get pleated up nicely for wearing.

The pleats can easily be sewn in to a strip of sturdy material and made permanent. I have a clergy tartan great kilt like that that I have been thinking of wearing to our next dressy event.

Looking good.
Not the most practical of garments - I have a friend who occasionally wears the great kilt and his wife has to help him get into it.

11 oz Douglas tartan from Fraser and Kirkbright.

I thought of doing that. It works well for you? I guess you'd want to pleat, press the pleats, then sew in the waist cloth.
