    My kilted wedding day

Some of you may have followed my chronicles of learning highland formal wear, and putting my spin on things.

The pictures are still trickling in from all sources, so I'll update the thread as we sort through them. I won't include too many pics of everyone involved (My bride is a bit more private than I am), mostly what I've done with my doublets and my groomsmen, plus any hilarious pics that turned up.

Here's me walking with my parents.. I'm wearing my MacDonald of the Isles Hunting Ancient tartan... Dad is wearing a Black Watch. We moved the ceremony indoors as it had been raining off and on all day, then just as the thing started, the sun came out. But, it started raining again immediately after the ceremony, and I didn't want to risk all the ladies getting their hair ruined.

While I think some might not appreciate that I've strayed from the traditional look of a Montrose doublet, the more I look at these pics, the more of a success I think it was. The buttons are revolutionary war reproduction artillery buttons. My best man and I and one absentee groomsman met in the field artillery as US Marines... so having very nice antique style pewter buttons with little cannons on them was awesome. I also replaced the Jabot (I personally can't stand them), with a cravat. I have gloves tucked into my belt because we all wore white leather gloves for the day, and I had to remove them for the ceremony. I love the look of white gloves tucked in the belt like that.

My Loud MacLeod groomsman. This was after the alcohol started flowing and belts were loosened, and the crisp lines were replaced with a fun time.

    Why the sword:

My best man and I both deployed to Iraq together. The idea came up to wear our NCO swords for the ceremony (which turned out awesome, I think). This bright yellow clad gentleman, however, was not a Marine, and so could not carry one of our swords. So I put him with a 1796 Light Cavalry Saber.

Here he is again with one of the lovely bridesmaids. We matched the trim on her dress to his kilt, as we did with all the girls.

    That Sgian Dubh:

We carved custom handles and sheathes for some blades we bought. I'll post pics of them later next week in the DIY forum. Damascus blades, Ebony handles, Rengas trim pieces, and Cocobolo sheathes. They turned out excellent.

    The lovely bride and I

The best man and I toasting with some of my homemade rum!

Some of you might notice his doublet is being worn in a less than correct manner..... I will remind everyone, there was plenty of alcohol afoot. He wore a Leatherneck tartan for the day.

While definately not traditional in the strictest sense you all looked very well turned out. I think the look worked.

I think the Montrose outfits are great and really like the thought that went into making them unique.
