My New Unusual Sporran~ a review

Today I received the sporran I had made especially for a wedding next month. What could be more appropriate to the season than a March Hare?

(the pictures I've uploaded here are the ones sent to me by the sporranmaker~ I'll post some of my own later)

The sporran was made for me by Chris Hurst of SkyRavenWolf and I couldn't be happier with it! I stumbled across Chris's site almost by accident, and was intrigued by her leather sporrans~ they were really unusual, and the quality of the carving and colouring was like nothing I'd seen before. In the flesh, the wonderful decoration is even better than these pictures suggest.

I asked Chris to omit the side rings that she often adds to her sporrans, and substitute a simple piece of leather to thread the sporran belt through~ but check this out! More beautiful detailing, where only I will see it! I love it when things are better than they need to be. To me it suggests a real pride taken in the work.

The construction is simple and honest and good~ neatly handstitched with thick, waxed saddling thread. The leather is good, thick stuff, neatly hand-dyed. Capacity is adequate for me~ I usually travel light and wear a jacket with pockets. Size is an inch and three-quarters deep, more or less, and 7.75" tall and 7.25" wide.

I can't tell you how chuffed I am with this little beauty! Dealing with the maker was a joy~ I could have had any animal or design I wanted, and I reckon I'll be buying another one as soon as I can save up.

Last but not least was the price. £65. I can't imagine how long this must have taken to make, and I can't see how it's so inexpensive.

I cannot wait to wear this sporran!

That is not only unusual, but unusually good-looking! It's fun when people put their own personal touch on the kilt outfit. W(hare) it in good health!

Was thinking of having a custom sporran made for a special event, and now I know where to get one. Really nice - thanks for sharing the photos!

Regards,
Rex.

Very nice. It's more a work of art, than a sporran. Congratulations.

Thanks for the link.

Thanks for posting , Joseph. That sporran is truly a thing of beauty. The thing that strikes me, is how 'English' it looks on such a Scottish piece of clothing.

I have sent an email to Chris, with a few ideas. I can't wait for her reply.

Thanks again.

Regards

Chas
