new 2nd Kilt (plus my ravens cape)

A local store called the "Plaid Place" started a 50% off sale today and so I was sure to get down there early this morning. I had already been in there a couple weeks ago thinking about getting a 2nd kilt but they mentioned this sale so I waited and saved some money. I got another non-wool 8-yard kilt this time in the Black Watch. I also got a shirt in the Maple Leaf tartan which I like (some day I will get a kilt in that). Anyway, here I am wearing these and my usual scarves leg wrappings (sorry the pics are dark - my camera was plugged in and this was the only spot I could get photos ... I adjusted them as best I could in graphics software).







In this last one, I put on this nice cape my friend made for me. It's a fairly medium/heavy dark purple (a warm purple) wool and at first it was potentially ankle length (so would be more of a cloak) but I felt that's not practical and I wanted the lower part of the kilt to show (and I wanted to avoid looking too much like Darth Vader).




The cloak/cape clasps are solid bronze and nice and weighty made by a place in South Carolina

These bronze ravens on my cape are the two ravens (Huginn means 'thought', Muninn means 'memory') of the Norse god Odin. They often are shown sitting on his shoulders. I have a great interest in mythologies and symbolisms and to me, Huginn and Muninn have some attraction. Here's one of my paintings of Odin, Frigga (his wife) , the two ravens Huginn and Muninn as well as the two wolves sitting at his feet named Geri and Freki (their names both basically mean 'greedy'). Frigga is holding a sprig of Mistletoe which was what killed their son Baldr (through the sneakiness of the trickster Loki)





I'm not a direct follower of any religion old or new but I look at many and see the symbolic similarities (basically comparative religion/mythology).

This bold combination of different tartans and the leg wraps looks very retro to me... like ancient-retro. Because it is a tailored kilt (i.e. not a great kilt), this is somehow still contemporary Nice work.

The cloak really complements and completes the whole look.

I have a few pieces from Crafty Celts as well - they are the Maryland Renaissance festival. I might have to try to talk my wife into making me a cloak just so I can get the clasps.

Yes bold but it "works". Despite the traditional view against wearing various tartans, I remember the general fashion admonitions for doing just that: 1: make the tartans different in scale. 2: Use a minor colour of one as a major colour of another. And I also agree the cape works well. Wear it good health.
